Gladiator Fights and the Colosseum
The Romans enjoyed watching gladiator fights in arenas, like the Colosseum. The Colosseum could seat 45,000 citizens, or more if people were standing. The gladiators were men or women, usually prisoners from wars. Many gladiators died fighting other gladiators or animals to death. The Colosseum was open to anyone, plebians or patricians. The admission was free.
